Experimental Research On Treating Chronic Glomerulonephritis With The Method Of Cooling The Blood And Dissipating Blood Stasis And The Methods Of Tonifying The Kidney

Prof. Zhao Shaoqin in the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine is successful in treating chronic glomerulonephritis with a new method of CM, which is called "Cooling the Blood and Dissipating Blood Stasis". It is reported in this thesis that the research about the method has been completed both theoretically and experimentally.Theoretical Research: Chronic glomerulonephritis is a kind of immunologically mediated disease caused by many pathogenic factors. The pathogenesis is considered having relationship with allergic reaction. Chinese medicine has more advantages in releasing clinical symptoms and controlling the development of disease. Based upon the theory of "the kidney being in charge of the weakness", Chinese herbs for tonifying the kidney are commonly applied in treating chronic glomerulonephritis. However, we have found out clinically that quite a few patients are in vain by the treatment of tonifying the kidney. Therefore, as we propose, it is necessary to probe into and differentiate the pathogenesis of chronic glomemlonephritis in Chinese traditional medical theory. This thesis gives a systematic and profound elucidation about the etiology of "pathogenic heat accumulated in the blood" in process of chronic glomerulonephritis, as well as has proven the curative effectiveness of using the methods of "Cooling the Blood and Dissipating Blood Stasis" in healing of this disease.Experimental Research: The model of modified Masugi nephritis in the rat was used in the experiment. Three control groups were included: pathological group, therapeutic groups by the methods of "Cooling the Blood and Dissipating Blood Stasis" and the methods of "Tonifying the Kidney". The effects of "Nephritis No. 1" which is a herbal formula for "Cooling the Blood and Dissipating Blood Stasis" were observed; in the control group, "Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan " which is a kind of typical tonifying-kidney herbal prescription is in comparison. The differences between them were investigated at the same time. As a result, the quantities of 24hr urinary protein, serum cholesterol (CHO), serum creatinine (SCr) and serum urea nitrogen (BUN) in the therapeutic group by "Nephritis No. 1" were lower obviously than those of the pathological group and the therapeutic group by " Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan ". The levels of serum albumin (ALB) in the therapeutic group by "Nephritis No. l' were higher eminently than those of the pathological group and the therapeutic group by " Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan " . The test results of blood rheology and the improvementof kidney histology in the therapeutic group by "Nephritis No. 1" were much better than those of the pathological group and the therapeutic group by " Jin Gui Shen Qi Wan ". Conclusively, it is showed that the herbal prescription from the method of "Cooling the Blood and Dissipating Blood Stasis" could improve renal function, alleviate blood state of hypercoagulability, lower the level of serum cholesterol and mitigate the lesions of glomerular.
