| Objective To investigate the effects of microvessel density (MVD) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on duodenum carcinoma. Method By the methods of immunohistochemistry, MVD and VEGE states of 35 cases of duodenum carcinoma was studied in the contrasts of 10 duodenal adenomas and 10 normal duodenal mucous membranes. Result The value of MVD in the duodenal normal mucous~. adenoma and duodenum carcinoma increased by degrees. The value of MVD in the center of carcinoma and its boundary was significantly different. Numbers of MVD varied in various pathological states. The positive rates of VEGF in the duodenal normal mucous adenoma and duodenum carcinoma are respectively 1 0%,20% and 40%. The value of MVD in VEGF negative group was lower than that in the VEGF positive group. The rate of metastasis in low level of MVD and VEGF negative group was lower than that in high level MVD and VEGF positive group, but the operative resection rate was higher than that in high level MVD and VEGF positive groups. Conclusions 1. Duodenal tumor vessels had an important effect on its creation growth and metastasis. 2. Express of VEGF in duodenum carcinoma had influence on the formation of tumor vessels. 3. Levels of MVD and express of VEGF had correlated to some biological behavior of duodenum carcinoma. 4. Levels of MVD and express of VEGF had important reference to metastasis and prognosis of duodenum carcinoma. 5. It was a new practical therapy that targets to the vessels of duodenum carcinoma by high levels of MVD and express of VEGF. |
