Objective To investigate the nerve fibers architecture of human scar and explore the relationships between clinical pruritus and the quantitives of nerve fibers of human scar. Methods both normal skin tissue and scar samples were stained by cajal抯 method and studied immunohistochemically for the numbers of nerve fibers . Results S-i 00 protein stainning of normal skin tissue revealed nerve fibers located in regular arrangements between microvascular and the affiliated construction of skin. All the scar samples is apparently free of nerve fibers, the distributional patterns ranged from focally dense nerve fiber networks to focally isolated fibers.the former pattern tended to occur peripherally and the latter centrnlly, although exceptions were noted. The distributional patterns show some difference between normal skin and human scar, significant difference of the numbers of nerve fibers between normal skin-. hypertrophic scars and non-hypertrophic scars (P < 0.01); the numbers of nerve fibers of hypertrophic scars in one year is higher than those in more than one year (P<0.0 1); the numbers of nerve fibers in the center of hypertrophic scars is lower than those in the periphery areas(P<0.0 1); pruritus in patients with scars correlated with the numbers of nerve fibers(P<0.0 1). Conclusion all human scar is apparently free of nerve fibers, the distributional patterns show significant difference between normal skin and human scar; The different areas of hypertrophic scars and the different periods of 3 hypertrophic scars have the various numbers of nerve fibers; It may be correlated with the regeneration process of schwann cells. The numbers of nerve fibers may be one of influence factors in the clinical pruritus patients with hypertrophic scars. |
