| Objective: The trial is to observe the effect and study the mechanism of "YANGWEIHEJI" on releasing toxic reactions of radiotherapy and chemotherapy and improving quality of life of tumor patients. Methods: 120 Patients diagnosed between 1999 and 2001 nasopharyngeal carcinoma or lung cancer or cancer of digestive system was randomly divided into two groups. Group A was case group, and group B was case group. 46 case patients were treated with routine methods of radiotherapy or/and chemotherapy, combined with YANGWEIHEJI. 74 control patients were treated with routine methods of radiotherapy or/and chemotherapy. The curative effect and quality of life (QOL) of tumor patients were observed. The items of effect involved blood routine test and T cell subclassification. The items of QOL included four aspects: physical health (PH), mental health (MH), social relations (SR) and toxic reactions (TR). Compare the differences of fore-and-aft therapy of effect and QOL between two groups.Results:1. Curative effects: There were significant differences between group A and B in White blood cell count and Hemoglobin assay. There were also significant differences in T cell subclassification (CDS, CD4, CD3/CD4).For nasopharyngeal carcinoma, there was significant difference in CDS. For cancer of digestive system, there was significant difference in White cell count.2. QOL: There were significant differences between group A and B in PH, MH, TR and total scale. For cancer of digestive system, there were significant differences in PH, MH, TR and total scale; For lung cancer, there were significant differences in PH, TR and total scale; For nasopharyngeal carcinoma, there were significant differences in TR and total scale. Conclusions: 1. YANGWEIHEJI can decrease toxic reactions of radiotherapy and chemotherapy in marrow and immunity cell and improve QOL of tumor patients. 2. It was best for YANGWEIHEJI to improve QOL of patients who suffered cancer of digestive system, and next to lung cancer, and next to nasopharyngeal carcinoma. 3. YANGWEIHEJI was likely to improve QOL via protecting marrow and cellular immunity function. |
