Since industrial revolution, rapid increase in population combined with uncontrolled exploration of natural resources, especially deforestation and emission of large amounts of waste to nature have created a series of global environmental problems, the most prominent of which is global warming caused by the surge of concentration of greenhouse gases such as CO2 surge.Data shows that over the past century, the concentration of CO2 on Earth has increased by 25%.Following the increasing speed like this,CO2 level of atmosphere in the next century will double. This problem has threatened the health of the planet and human life and therefore attracting the international community's focus. As the implementation "United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change," and the "Kyoto Protocol", carbon sequestration value of forests will be widely recognized.China is a country possessing limited forest resources and due to historical reasons, the forest has been seriously damaged, especially in the Loess Plateau where serious destruction of natural vegetation, soil erosion and severe degradation were usually happening. At the end of last century, approached by strategic slogan of "another beautiful northwest region",the Shaanxi provincial government focused on returning farmland to forests and developed afforestation, achieving significant ecological benefits. This study was on the basis of the project-Ecological Environment Monitoring Afforestation in Shaanxi Province supported by yen loans. In this study, Qianyang Miaoling artificial ecological forest watershed was regarded as the research object and research methods were field investigation and slope drawing. Carbon storage and air anion were studied to evaluate the effects of afforestation on eco-environment of the forest after afforestation. Main results are listed as follows:The results showed that after afforestation, area of forest cover in watershed increased by 272.08hm2 and the forest coverage rate reached 86.28 percent, a 28.91 percent increase compared with pre-afforestation.In the region of Loess Plateau Watershed Miaoling artificial ecological forest, total carbon storage was 328.64 t ? hm-2 higher than that of pre-afforestation, reaching 26188.17 t and the organic carbon sequestration was 46.36 t ? hm-2 ? year-1. There would be a significant difference on the capacity of reserving carbon for different artificial forests during young forest stage, the result was as below: poplar (20.40 t ? hm-3), Locust (14.99 t?hm-2),mixed forest (14.17 t?hm-2 ) and platycladus orientalisand (9.98 t?hm-2); different factors have higher affects on organic carbon sequestration, especially for the age of stand(highly positive correlation) and the affect of forest canopy closure was less obvious than that of the age of stand. In the main growing season, annual average concentrations of aero-anion showed poplar>Locust>mixed>side of Berlin;compared with wasteland, the ratio of increasing of four kinds of forests were poplar (41.43 lons ? cm-3),Locust (25.25 lons ? cm-3),mixed forest (14.25 lons ? cm-3 Platycladus orientalisand (4.14 lons ? cm-3).After afforestation, the air quality of different artificial eco-forest have improved and are better than wasteland.
