Road greening ,one of the most part of city greening ,and the street trees are the element of the rode greening .The purpose of this study is to measure the landscape esthetics of different species of street trees to serve as one criterion for street trees landscape's construction .The scenic beauty estimation method belonged to psychophysical was applied to measure respondents preferences for the street trees landscape . Fifty-eight color slides of street trees landscape taken from Chengdu city were presented to four groups of respondents including one Professional group (landscape architects), one Social Publicities, one Students of LA Department and one Students of Non- LA Department . Those respondents were asked to rate their preference for every slide. Those rating were transformed into scenic beauty estimates (SBEs) by RMRATE. ANOVA analyses and Multiple regression analyses were applied to analyze the relationships between preferences and various street tree attributes. At last, the study established the Predicting model which was suit to steeet trees landscape.Some important findings of this study were summarized as follows : (1)The most preferred species of street trees are Bauhinia purpurea , Platanus L., Ficus microcar pa, Ligustrum lucidum , Robinia pseudoacacia , Ficus lacor . in sixteen street tress species in Chengdu city. The least preferred are species of street trees Koelreuteria paniculata , Trachycarpus fortunei, Metasequoia glyptostraoboides, Phoebe sheareri in sixteen street tress species in Chengdu city. (2) The whole scenic beauty estimates (SBEs) of street trees landscape in Chengdu was high. (3) The street tree attributes that affects public preferences were area of crown measured from picture , area of plants background ,width of crown , width of bough, decoration sketch on the road including sculpture ,area of one leaf, area of withers leaves and branches .The most two factors were the decoration sketch on the road including sculpture and width of bough .The influences of these attributes on preference , however , were different for different respondent groups . (4) The revealed high correlation among SBEs of Profession group and Social publicities group justified the approach to landscape professions' landscape preferences as public preferences, whose Pearson's correlation coefficients was 0.917 . (5)The revealed moderate correlation among SBEs of two sturents group and the two other group justified that we didn't chose students group as only respondents to measure landscape preferences as public preferences in the future approach. (6) The revealed high correlation among SBEs of all groups justified this study had practical value, whose Pearson's correlation coefficients among 0.869~0.920.
