Soil organic carbon (SOC) is a very important indicator in the research of the global environment change. How to estimate the storage of SOC effectively is a hot world wide topic presently. The main results on the research background, method of estimation, measurement and storage of SOC are collected and compared carefully. Four topics are put forward for the improvement of this research, such as to estimate the SOC of area in different height with detailed large-scale land form map, Finally, specific topic have been advanced: To adopt the large scale map for basic data and increase the number of profile with high altitude differences; to intensify the reciprocity analysis between SOC and climate and develop Kinetic model in soil carbon circle research; to enhance the research of some factors impacting on SOC storage as LUCC and so on; to search for research ways in SOC estimating on different time and spatial condition. Soil organic carbon is a significant component in the terrestrial carbon reservoir,and its storage,distribution and conversion play a major role in the globe carbon budget. The affected factors of soil organic carbon were studied based on the data of 65553 layers and 5350 profiles of ShaanXi from the second soil survey of China. Based on soil organic carbon map of Shaan'Xi(1:500000) combined with a soil database from the second soil survey of China, soil organic carbon storage were estimated for Shaan'Xi using ErDars,ArcGIS 8 Ddsktop,ArcView3.2 and other geographical information system technology. For satisfying the request of exalting the economic performance of agriculture and ecosystem performance,this research developed an information system of soil organic carbon for farmland based on the WebGIS. Result showed:1. The amount of carbon varied significantly at different districts in Shaan'Xi. South China had high carbon density and north China had low carbon density. This distribution showed different human and natural influence. Soil organic carbon varied significantly at different soil types, topography, land use type and other natural and factitious factors. 2. For the purpose of steadying SOC, some ways should be generalized extensively to accelerate the aggregation of the SOC, or others should be weakened to avert SOC from decomposing. Otherwise, the project could be cooperated with special ways in Loess Pleatu. 2. The two key technics in hierarchical color way are choosing chromatic scheme and classification with numerical value of cartographic factor. As a role, the choice for color lies on the character of cartographic factor, followed by the change of amount or distinction, the color changes. So this way is the same with showing all kinds of exterior factors in hierarchical map.3. Regarding soil kind as the basic units and using the soil taxonomy, the formula of average and carbon content had been hanged together. After measure and verify, the total area of soil attain to 27,239.29km2,the content of soil organic carbon attain to 3.35×1012kg, the soil organic carbon density attain to 1.23×108 kg/km2.4. The system combines together Internet and GIS technique,having functions of SOC information,searching carbon information,very powerful data input,special subject analysis,project decision,predicting carbon results, etc. It has very friendly user interface,is high visualized,can simply be operated;It is applicable in different region for the service of soil organic carbon of farmland.
