Corn landraces are very important germplasm resources in China. There are some specific genes among them with good adaptability to local environments and stress. It was believed that waxy corn was originated from south China or south-east Asia. Among the waxy corn germplasm of landraces collected in China national genebank, about 79.55% percent of waxy corn landraces were collected from southwest provinces. The the relationship among the waxy corn landraces were unclear for the lack of pedigree records available. The objective of this study is to provide a molecular profile for the genetic diversity and relationship of the waxy corn landraces.Using bulk sampling strategy, the genetic diversity of 90 waxy corn landraces from 7 provinces of China and 6 common tester lines were analyzed in 31 fluorescent SSR loci across maize genome. Totally, 216 alleles were detected, with an average of 6.97 per locus, ranging from 2 to 12 alleles. The average polymorphism information content (PIC) and marker index (MI) were 0.67 and 4.92, respectively. The results showed that the composition of the Chinese waxy corn landraces was quite diverse and that there were rich genetic diversity existed among the landraces. Greater genetic diversity was found in Guangxi and Guizhou, and the two provinces were presumed as the important genetic diversity centers of waxy corn germplasm. Compared with the 6 common tester lines, there were a large number of peculiar alleles in the 90 waxy corn landraces. The 90 waxy corn landraces were clustered into 3 groups, with 1-3 common tester lines respectively. The study revealed the relationships between waxy corn landraces and the common tester lines and provided evidence for the scientific utilization of the local wax corn germplasm.
