As a new plant growth regulator, 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl Caproate (DA-6) has multiple functionalities, including auxin, gibberellin, cytokinin, etc. The thesis studied the preparation of SnCl4 Supported on SiO2 as catalyst and its catalytic properties, and, for the first time, utilized it as catalyst in the synthesis of 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl Caproate. In comparison with existing catalysts, it has advantages of easy preparation, low cost, high esterification yield, easy to recycle, and reusability. This method may find application in industrialzed production. The thesis synthesized 2-(dimethylamino) ethyl caproate (DA-6) using caproic acid and 2-diethylamino ethanol. With three-level four-factor orthogonal experiment design, the optimum reaction condition was determined as: the ratio of 2-diethylamino ethanol to caproic acid is 1:1.1; reaction time 6 hours, 1 mol 2-diethylamino ethanol requires 15 ml toluene, 0.5g catalyst. Yield of product was 92.3%.The product was separated and purified with self-prepared apparatus, where fractionating column was wrapped with heating band and filled withθpacking rings and DA-6 was purified using vacuum distillation. Gas chromatograph analysis showed DA-6 purity over 99%. Its refraction rate analysis results agreed with literature; its structure was also characterized by IR, 1HNMR, and element analysis. In order to understand DA-6 reaction process and gas chromatograph analysis parameters, the process was monitored with gas chromatograph using programmed rising temperature method. By analyzing DA-6 reaction and possible side reaction mechanisms, we believe the process may consist of following four reactions:1. Caproic acid reacted with 2-dimethylamino ethyl and generates DA-6;2. Dehydration happened to 2-dimethylamino ethyl molecules resulted in the formation of aether or enamine;3. DA-6 decomposed into caproic acid and 2-diethylamino ethanol during reversible reaction;4. DA-6 reacted with overdosed caproic acid and generates salt.
