The effects of different fertilizers on water absorbent and nutrients holding ability of water retaining agent were studied by determining water absorbent rate and amounts of absorbed and fixed fertilizers by water retaining agent in different fertilizers, such as urea, ammonium bicarbonate, ammonium chloride, ammonium sulfate, ammonium nitrate, ammonium phosphate, super phosphate, potassium chloride and potassium sulfate. The results showed that the water absorbent ability of the water retaining agent decreased obviously along with the increase of concentrations of various fertilizers. The fertilizers had stronger influence on polyacrylic salt polymer than polyacrylic salt-polyacry lamide polymer. The effects of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers on the water absorbent rate were: urea < ammonium bicarbonate < potassium chloride < ammonium nitrate < potassium sulfat < ammonium sulfate < ammonium chloride < ammonium phosphate < super phosphate. When water retaining agent swelled in water, they absorbed and fixed the molecules or ions of the fertilizers dissolved in water while they absorbed water. The amounts of absorbed and fixed fertilizers increased with the increase of concentrations of fertilizers, but they were dissimilar in different fertilizer solutions. The rate of absorbed and fixed fertilizers, however, decreased along with the increase of concentrations of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium fertilizers except urea, and had the order: ammonium nitrate < ammonium bicarbonate < ammonium chloride < ammonium sulfate < urea, super phosphate < ammonium phosphate, potassium sulfat < potassium chloride at top concentration.Using the cations(Fe3+, Al3+, Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, NH4+, Na+) and anions(Cl-, SO42-, CO32-, H2PO4-) of plant essitional nutrient elements to study the influence of different ions on the water absorbent rate of water retaining agent. The results showed that the water absorbent rate decreased along with the ions concentration increasing and there was a obviously positive relationship between them. The influence order of various cations on the water absorbent rate of water retaining agent for DM was Al3+ > Fe3+ > Mg2+ > Ca2+ > NH4+ > Na+ > K+. While for PRKM the order was Al3+, Fe3+ > Mg2+ > Ca2+ > NH4+ > Na+ > K+. As a whole the trivalent cations > bivalent cations > univalent cations. The influence order of various anions on the...
