Neropeptide Y(NPY), a 36-amino acid peptide, is abundantly and widely distributed in both the central nervous system(CNS)and the peripheral nervous System(PNS), especially in telencephalon, preoptic area, optic tectal slices and hypothalamus. NPY has been implicated in various physiological processe. It has, for instance, been established as important regulator of food intake and in the control of blood pressure in vertebrates. Moreover, NPY has been linked to the regulation of circadian rhythms and sexual behavior in mammals as well as in fish. Barbodes (Spinibarbus) sinensis'is a rare and economical fresh water breed in China, it is mainly distributed in the upper and medium reaches of Changjiang River and its branches. S.sinensisis is very delicious and nutritious, and it contains a large quantity of protein, fat, calcium, phosphorus and ferrum.NPY is an important regulator on food intake, but the molecular mechanisms of NPY in controlling S.sinensis food intake have not been reported. In the research the cDNA encoding NPY from S.sinensisis was cloned and sequenced, at the same time, its potential amino acid sequence was deduced and the corresponding protein structure was predicted and analysed, primary results are as follows:1.Full-length cDNA sequence of NPY from Barbodes (Spinibarbus) sinensisBased on multiple alignment of a number of Cyprinidae NPY genes, two special primers of 3'cDNA ends were designed for amplification of the 3'cDNA ends of NPY genes and the sequence was acquired from the cDNA templet of the brain of S.sinensis. A special reverse transcription primer and three pairs of special primers on 5'cDNA ends were designed according to 3'cDNA ends sequence, so the sequence of the 5'cDNA ends was acquired from the cDNA templet of the brain of S.sinensis. Then two special primers were designed for amplification of the full-length cDNAs sequences according to 5' and 3'cDNA ends of S.sinensis NPY gene. The full-length cDNA of NPY...
