Qixia city, Shandong province has a long history of planting apple because its natural resource and ecological condition is most suitable to plant apple in China. With the development of agricultural information, it is a tendency to apply 3S technology, database technology, distributed computer technology to explore the orchard reasonable layout and scientific management. Taking Qixia as a study area, this research collates information about the management of apple production, According to principle from macro to micro, the study area divides into county, town and orchard three levels. In order to realize the fruit production reasonable layout and scientfic management, A apple orchard management system was established based on ArcGIS Engine. Combined with GIS spatial analysis and mathematical model, this research complets the land use data, topographic data, soil data and climate modeling data fusion of multiple data sources and database construction. the main contents and achievements are listed as follows:(1) System design. The synthesis method is adopted replying on the design goal and principle. System consisted of three various subsystems, i.e. county, town and orchard.(2) Database design and establishment.Spatial database: This research brings forward a new method to organize relative data of the apple'plating and layout based on three classes of regionalism, the scale of spatial data is 1:10000 ,The base data included: soil resource data and orchard manage fundamental information data, landform data, climate data, land utilization current situation relevance information data. Attribute database: This research builds the attribute data base responding to relatively with space data base.Database management: This research makes use of the SQL server to build the figure apple data base, the data unites science classification, builds the data dictionary according to that space attribute and the attribute data are put in storage face to face, by the fact that space data engine ArcSDE manages a data base, carries out the optimization deploy on the data base.(3) System realization. The system is established based on VB and ArcGIS Engine, design function module logic model, the realization carrying out a function according to architectural-rization exploitation method, realizes the systematic corresponding function module by the fact that the attribute data is related to space data.(4) Applications and Research of the system. The system achieves precision of spatial information management, Queries to achieve the basic conditions, such as elevation, slope, aspect, precipitation, accumulated temperature, sunshine, soil texture, soil thickness, soil nutrients, soil and other basic information, and apple cultivation suitability, soil erosion, land use, etc. The system achieves spatial data and attribute data query with the shortcut toolbar and right shortcut query, completes three-dimensional landscape view at the county level, as well as orchards show pictures. According to apple's planting determination of suitability evaluation, the system completes database construction, the first factor is Climate, Terrain and Soil, the second factor is elevation, slope, aspect, soil thickness, soil texture,soil organic matter,annual precipitation,annual sunshine hours and≥10℃annual accumulated temperature, finally forms an apple finally planting proper area.
