Taking annual cuttings and seeds of of wild roses and cultivated roses as test materials. The germination,growth, physiological and biochemical characteristics were studied under salt and akaline salt stresses through pot experiment and seed germination. We discussed the reaction of roses to the salt and akaline salt stresses. The main results are as the followings:Seed germination of roses is inhibited by neutral salt stress with germination rate, germination potential, germination index, vigor index declining. And wild roses are less than'Zi yan'in the drop extent.With the increase of salt concentration the SOD activity of seeds first rise and then decline, wild roses rise more than'zi yan'.The soluble sugar and free proline content of Rosa rugosa are rising with the increase of salt concentration under salt stress, with the extension of the stress time, they first declining and then increasing and to the maximal in the third week. Under alkaline salt stress condition, they are on the rise.With the increase of salt concentration and pH, the SOD activity of Rosa rugosa leaf first rise and then decline, It resched the peak values with salt stress for 0.2%, and it decline with increasing prolonged of NaCl stress time. antioxidant capacity is in recession. It resched the peak values with pH for 8.01under alkaline salt stress.As salt concentration and pH value increase, K+ content and root vigor of Rosa rugosa leaves both declined after four weeks of salt stress, Na+ content increase, and Na+ / K+ declines.Chl, chla, chlb, photosynthetic rates, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance decline, with increase of salt concentration, pH and the extension of time under salt stress , the change of wild rose is small than'ziyan'.The change of intercellular CO2 concentration is not obvious, it shows that lower of rose photosynthetic rate is mainly caused by the stomatal limitation factors.The growth of Rosa rugosa was inhibited and the biomass was decreased under the salt stresses.The change of wild rose is small than cultivated roses,'ziyan'is small than'zhongke 2', and root is more sensitive than ground; Under alkaline salt stress condition, 'ziyan' is more inhibited than 'purple branches', and the root of'ziyan'is more sensitive to the change of pH.From the above, the change of wild rose is less than cultivated roses in various physiological indexes escept SOD activity under salt stress,'ziyan'is small than'purple branches' and'zhongke 2'. Under alkaline salt stress, the change range of 'ziyan'is big than 'purple branch'.Through morphological observation, growth, and physiological index analysis may safely draw a conclusion:The resistant to salt ability of roses under neutral salt stress : wild roses >'ziyan'>'purple branches','zhongke 2'The resistant to salt ability of roses under alkaline salt stress:'purple branches'>'ziyan'.The results of the relevant analysis show that : Under salt stress , all indexes except SOD are significantly or very significantly related to biomass, which could be used as the evaluation indexes of rose salt resistance performance; Under alkaline salt stress , all indexes except SOD activity and K+ content could be used as the evaluation indexes of rose alkaline resistance performance. Between salt stress and alkaline salt stress all indexes exist correlation in different degrees.The primary component analysis indicates:The first principal component is Na+ and soluble sugar, the second principal component is K+, the third principal component is TTC.
