| Black soldier fly Hermetia illucens L.is a species of very important resource insect. They can convert the animal waste into animal feeding and the prepupae can be as feed additive. However, Converted the manure time of some black soldier fly larvae is too long and converted rate needed improved.In this study, we carried out the development of three populations of black soldier flies and evaluated their ability of black soldier flies larvae to reduce dry matter and associated nutrients in manure. Black soldier flies were from three different places. They were fed with the same feeding. Gainesville diet, which was developed for rearing house flies and the diet currently suggested for mass rearing the black soldier fly. Alfalfa meal: Wheat bran:Corn meal is 3:5:2. They were placed in a same house, the temperature is controlled at 28℃and the humidity is 75%.In this condition, we examined the history traits of the three populations. Populations affected life history. The final larvae, prepupae and adults of Texas population all weighed less than the other two populations, and Wuhan population weighed most. Additionally, the larvae development of Wuhan population is 5-6 days less than the Texas population, 3-4 days less than Guangzhou population. Larvae of Wuhan population reduce the dry matter and N mass more than the other two populations in each treatment with the same manure. And the reduction rate of dry matter and N mass of poultry manure is higher than the other two populations. Based on results of this study, the Wuhan population could be a outstanding population used to converted animal waste, and the poultry manure could be a suitable food for the black soldier flies. |
