| Purpose:To observe the effces of " Row of thorn to jilt stitch " on the symptomsof flat wrinkles on the forehead and facial distortion among patients whosuffered peripheral facial paralysis. Through House-Brackmann (H-B) gradingscale, facial disability index (FDI) scales and so on, to evaluate the overalleffects of " Row of thorn to jilt stitch " therapy on the patients who sufferedperipheral facial paralysis, also to verify the clinical effectiveness of thismethod, and thus to seek an more effective therapy for this type of patients.Material and method:Both the treatment group and the control group usedneedles made of steel from Suzhou Huatuo medical co. Ltd, whose specs are0.25×25mm.The participants all came from Liaoning University of Traditional ChineseMedicine from December2012to December2013, both clinic and inpatientdepartments. Sixty patients who met TCM diagnostic criteria for peripheralfacial paralysis were allocated to either the treatment group (n=30) or controlgroup (n=30). The treatment group were scheduled to undergo " Row of thorn tojilt stitch " therapy, and the control group were scheduled to undergo regularacupuncture therapy. The trail was randomized, controlled, single blinded.Results:1. The demographic data in both groups are comparable.2. The HB facial nerve function classification was comparable beforetreatment between two groups (P>0.05); However, the HB facial nerve functionclassification after treatment was statistically different after treatmentbetween two groups(P <0.05); The facial disability index (FDI) was alsocomparable after treatment between two groups(P>0.05); However, the facialdisability index (FDI) was statistically different between two groups (P < 0.05).3. The two groups of patients in the frontal line recovery, have significantdifference before and after treatment, P <0.05, suggesting that the treatmentgroup in improving the forehead lines recovery degree is better than the controlgroup; Efficient compared the two groups after treatment, P>0.05, is notsignificant, suggesting that two treatment both can improve the symptoms offacial paralysis; The two groups after treatment in markedly effective rate,P <0.05, were statistical different, suggesting that the treatment group isbetter than that of the treatment group on the improvement of the symptom ofperipheral facial paralysis. Conclusion:Through this clinical trial, we found that the total therapeutic efficiency wasroughly same between two group, but" Row of thorn to jilt stitch " therapy ishigher than conventional acupuncture in the markedly effective rate. Moreover, the symptoms of flat wrinkles on the forehead and facial distortion weresignificantly improved in the treatment group compared with the control group. In all," Row of thorn to jilt stitch " therapy which is both safe and economic, has definite clinical effect, therefore it is quite worthy generalizing. |
