Purpose:To explore the variation of TCM syndromes and regularity of Chinesemedicinal herbs in different stages of using glucocorticoids of adult primarynephrotic syndrome, laying the foundation for determining the TCM treatment.Material and method:Retrieval CNKI database, Chongqing VIP database andWanfang database for nearly15years (January1,1999to January1,2014) ofthe TCM core journals, to obtain the target documents and analysisof literature. Results:A total of50papers to meet the requirements are retrieved andsyndromes of TCM total17. In the sufficiency stage of glucocorticoid, hyperactivity of fire due to yin deficiency syndrome totals38, accounting for70.37%, while internal heat due to yin deficiency syndrome amounts to5,accounting for9.26%, while syndrome of yin deficiency and dampness-heat addsup to4, accounting for7.40%, while syndrome of hyperactivity of fire due toyin deficiency with heat toxin is mentioned in3papers, accounting for5.56%,the same for damp-heat syndrome, while heat toxin syndrome totals1, accountingfor1.85%. While in the decrement stage, deficiency syndrome of both qi and yinadds up to23, accounting for40.35%, and deficiency syndrome of both yin andyang amounts to17, accounting for29.82%, and syndrome of deficiency ofkidney-yang is mentioned by7papers, accounting for12.28%, while syndrome ofyang deficiency of spleen and kidney is mentioned by5papers,accounting for8.77%, while syndrome of qi deficiency of spleen and kidney amounts to4,accounting for7.02%, and deficiency of both qi and yin with damp-heat syndrometotals1,accounted for1.75%. While in the maintenance stage, syndrome of qideficiency of spleen and kidney is mentioned20th, accounting for35.09%,and syndrome of yang deficiency of spleen and kidney amounts to13, accountingfor22.80%, and syndrome of deficiency of kidney-yang is mentioned in8papers,accounted for14.04%, while deficiency syndrome of both qi and yin adds up to 7, accounting for12.28%, and deficiency syndrome of both yin and yang ismentioned in4papers, accounting for7.02%, and syndrome of yin deficiency ofliver and kidney amounts to3, accounting for5.26%, and syndrome of deficiencyof kidney-qi is mentioned twice, accounting for3.51%.By the statistics, it involves a total of97kinds of Chinese medicinal herbs. The total frequency of herbs is1164, with the sufficiency stage406, thedecrement stage368, and the maintenance phase390. Among them, the tonic herbsappear a total of578times, accounting for49.66%, followed by heat clearingherbs(192,16.49%), diuretics for eliminating dampness(121,10.40%) with herbsof promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis(113,9.70%), while theastringents, the warm medicines, the herbs of regulating qi and the diaphoreticherbs occupy a lower proportion. During the sufficiency stage ofglucocorticoid, the frequency of heat clearing herbs is highest, for149,accounting for36.70%, and the high-frequency herbs are primarily radixrehmanniae, cortex moutan, rhizoma anemarrhenae, phellodendron amurense. Thetonic medicines rank second, the frequency for129, accounted for31.77%, andthe high-frequency herbs are mainly fructus ligustri lucidi, eclipta,Chineseyam with Chinese wolfberry. While in the decrement stage, the frequency of thetonic herbs is highest, for205, accounting for55.71%, followed by diureticsfor eliminating dampness(39,10.60%) and herbs of promoting blood circulationand removing blood stasis(37,10.40%). And the high-frequency herbs of the tonicherbs are primarily astragalus membranaceus, codonopsis pilosula, Chinese yam, atractylodes, epimedium, dodder, psoralea corylifolia, radix rehmanniaepreparata, eclipta, fructus ligustri lucidi, etc. While during the maintenancestage, the tonic herbs are still the most frequently used, for244, accountingfor62.56%. And the following are diuretics for eliminating dampness(37,9.49%)and herbs of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis(35,8.98%).The high-frequency herbs of the tonic herbs are primarily astragalus, codonopsis, atractylodes, Chinese yam, epimedium, dodder, herba cistanches, etc. Herbsof promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis occupy a higher proportion at each stage. Conclusion:In the sufficiency stage of glucocorticoid, hyperactivity of firedue to yin deficiency syndrome and internal heat due to yin deficiency syndromeare the main syndromes. While in the decrement stage, deficiency syndrome ofboth qi and yin and deficiency syndrome of both yin and yang are the main syndromes. While in the maintenance stage, syndrome of yang deficiency of spleen and kidneyand syndrome of qi deficiency of spleen and kidney are the main syndromes. And thestagnant blood is throughout the whole course of the disease.Among the36included articles, the frequency of the tonic herbs is thehighest, and heat clearing herbs rank second, and diuretics for eliminatingdampness rank third, while herbs of promoting blood circulation and removingblood stasis rank forth. During the sufficiency stage, the highest frequencyis heat clearing herbs, followed by the tonic medicines. During the decrementstage, the highest frequency is the tonic herbs, followed by diuretics foreliminating dampness. While in the maintenance stage, the tonic herbs accountfor the most part. Herbs of promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasisoccupy a higher proportion at each stage.
