“Xiao Ke Bu Mei”, also called Diabetes Insomnia, is very common as one of commoncomplications of diabetes. Zhang Lan is the professor and doctoral tutor of the AffiliatedHospital of Liaoning University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, who works on clinicalstudies of endocrine system diseases about more than twenty years. She has unique viewabout the diagnosis and treatment of Diabetes Insomnia.According to the basic theory of traditional Chinese medicine, modern doctors’awareness of pathogenesis of Diabetes Insomnia and years of her own clinical experiences,Doctor Zhang suggests that the pathogenesis of Diabetes Insomnia and diabetic autonomicneuropathy have close intrinsic links. In Traditional Chinese Medicine’ perspective, thepathogenesis of Diabetes Insomnia is hyperactivity of yang due to yin deficiency, yang failingto join in yin, separation of yin and yang. Depending on the clinical presentation of thepatients, Diabetes Insomnia can be divided into five types: Internal Disturbance ofphlegm-heat, liver blood deficiency, yin deficiency and internal-heat, yin of liver and kidneydeficiency, blood-stasis in meridian. Especially, she sresses the importance of promotingblood circulation for removing blood-stasis during the whole treatment.
