Purpose:The objective of my project is to evaluate the statue of/qualitylevel of clinical research, the efficiency and safety of Chinese medicinetreatment of pediatric epilepsy and further to guide the clinical medication. To achieve this purpose, this study focuses on the pediatric epilepsy clinicalresearch method design, implement and therapeutic evaluation and other aspects.Material and method:By searching the Chinese biomedical literaturedatabase including CBM, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang database, and manual retrievalclinical research literature on traditional Chinese medicine in treatment ofchildren with epilepsy from2003to2013, According to the literature inclusioncriteria, exclusion criteria, and in accordance with the clinical epidemiology/DME principles and methods,<Chinese medicine in treatment of children withepilepsy evaluation form> was listed. The form was used to evaluate the qualityof the paper from the content of the sample, balance between the two groups, randomization, blind method, quality standard and stability of treatment, curative effect judgment standard, follow-up and statistical methods.Furthermore, Coehrane collaboration software ReviewManager (Revman5.0) was usedto perform Meta analysis.Results:1. Total12clinical research articles were used in this study. The overall randomquality is low. Only2articles used the completely randomized controlledaccounting for16.7%, and no articles mentioned allocation concealment scheme. For the description of balance between the two groups,8articals compared withage, duration of baseline and the comparability between groups, accounting for66.7%. In term of criterion of curative effect, all12articles have clear standard, but none of them mentioned the compliance tests for subjects and thefollow-up case. In all these research articles,11articles concluded astatistical analysis including t test, rank sum test. Most of them failed todetermine the statistical methods were correct or wrong from the paper.2.In term of the treatment efficacy, The result show that the Integrativetreatment for children epilepsy is better than Western medicine treatment.(Group1:OR:9.86,95%CI:2.96~36.15,P=0.0006;Group2:OR:8.69,95%CI:3.01~22.79,P<0.0001;Group3:OR:3.67,95%CI:2.32~5.81,P<0.00001). In terms ofreducing the number of convulsions, Chinese medicine is more effect.(WMD:0.70,95%CI:0.29~1.12,P=0.0009). Integrative Medicine in terms ofimproving the effectiveness of epileptic children’s EEG is better than Westernmedicine.(OR:4.10,95%CI:1.99~8.43,P=0.0001)。Integrative Medicine comparedwith Western medicine of the efficacy advantage in reducing seizure frequencycould not be confirmed.(WMD:-1.36,95%CI:-3.29~0.56,P=0.17).Conclusion:The evaluation results show that traditional Chinese medicine has some curativeeffect in treatment of children with epilepsy, but because the literature usedin this study are not enough. And there is lack of randomizing, blinding, standardization in the paper. Therefore, it is lack of evidence to prove thecurative effect. In the future, large sample, multi center; double-blind,randomized study should be studied.
