| Introduction:Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is a representative pro-inflammatory cytokine produced by various cells, plasma IL-6 is associated with neurological severity in ischemic stroke patients. We aimed to observe the clinical efficacy of xing lou cheng qi decoction treatment of acute ischemic stroke and to discuss its mechanism from Cerebral ischemia-induced inflammatory injury. Methods:We prospectively enrolled 35 patients with ischemic stroke. the patients were randomly divided into 2 groups,24 cases of xing lou cheng qi decoction treatment group,11 cases of the control group. Blood samples and clinical information were obtained at two time points (days pre and post treatment) after stroke onset. Results:Average IL-6 values at day post treatment were higher in the controls than in the treatment group (15.37±18.470 pg/mL vs.11.49±13.808 pg/mL, p=0.091). The total effective rates were significantly higher (87% vs.55.5%) in the treatment group than in the controls. Compared pre and post treatment, it had a remarkable improvement in wind syndrome(P<0.05),fire syndrome(P<0.01),Phlegm syndrome(P<0.03). For blood-stasis syndrome, there was significant difference between pre and post treatment in treatment group(P<0.05),and dissimilarity between in controls(P>0.05). Comparison between the two groups, the differences had no statistical significance(P>0.05). Score of heat phlegm fu-organ syndrome were superior in the treatment group than the controls. In the patients, neurological severity as evaluated by National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) had a remarkable improvement. The comparison showed no statistical significance(P>0.05) between treatment group and control group. Conclusions:Plasma IL-6 is increased after ischemic stroke. Improvement of clinical symptoms verified the clinical efficacy of xing lou cheng qi decoction treatment of acute ischemic stroke heat Phlegm fu-organ syndrome. |
