Two tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) cultivars, ZY100 (drought sensitive cultivar) and DHJ5210 (drought resistant cultivar) were used to study the effects of exogenous glycinebetaine (GB) on the drought tolerance and discuss the underlying mechanisms involvement. The GB pretreatments included root-application and foliar-application. The different degree water stress treatments were imposed with PEG-6000 of different concentration and controlling irrigation at different growth and development stage of tobacco plants.
