Lactoferrin is a member of transferrin family. Milk is rich in lactoferrin, which is a main protein in milk. Research shows that lactoferrin possesses many biological functions including (1) broad spectrum antibacteria and antivirus, (2) faciliating ferrin absorption for human body, (3) regulating the production of marrow cells, promoting growth of cells, (4) regulating immune system and enhancing disease resistance, (5) inhibiting tumors, (6) antioxidation, decreasing the harm of free radicals on the elastic proteins of artery thus preventing and curing Atherosclerosis and Coronary Artery Disease, (7) promoting gut bifidobacterium growth. However, human lactoferrin mainly distributes in human milk and it cannot be widely or easily obtained. This research selected rice cultivar 537, one of the best rice restorer lines, as the receptor for genetic transformation to express biologically active human lactoferrin. Thereafter, the obtained transgenic material can be further used as parent for rice hybrid breeding with various infertile lines to produce a range of combinations. The combinations with human lactoferrin gene, wide adaptability and high yield can thus be spread and applied. Therefore can be achieved the effect of promoting people' s health in shortest time, at least cost and for most benificients. In this research, agrobacterium mediation was adopted to transfer the human lactoferrin gene to rice cultivar 537. The main results are as follows:1. Establishing the regenerating system for 537. The best explant for inducing calli is juvenile embroy and the best media is NB; the best acetosyringone for cocultivation of calli and agrobacteria is 100μ mol.L-1; the ideal cocultivation time length is 2 to 3 days; and 0.05mg.L-1 NAA+3.00mg. L-1 6-BA is ideal for differentiation.2. Constructing the expression vector for human lactoferrin gene,...
