It is an important way to develop modern sericulture by reared silkworm on artificial diet. Especially feeding young silkworm on pellet diet and breeding old ones economically, which accords with China's current national conditions and will be the important sericulture direction in our country in future. In addition, breeding silkworm on artificial diet is also a main means to implore these technological work, such as studying the silkworm's physiology , pathology, genetic breeding and so on. So, it is very significant to promote the progress of our sericulture technique through further studying the practicality of the artificial diet. However, because of the absence of practically special silkworm variety for artificial diet in our country, it often results irregular development and more small and weak silkworms. Compared with the mulberry breeding, there is a deeper gap on the output and the quality of the cocoon. So it is the key to cultivate a kind of variety with comprehensive, excellent economic properties and can adapt to the artificial diet, especially cultivating a variety which has our own initiative knowledge property right. In theory, owing to the variation of the silkworm's feeding habit is very extensive and complex, there aren't consilient point on the silkworm's feeding habit and genetic law, so it is necessary to further explore. ZaA, a kind of euryphagous variety which was cultivated by our laboratory and its economic properties are excellent and stable, was a perfect fundamental material for artificial diet. The ZaA's olfaction physiology characters, gustatory physiology response, and the genetic law of feeding habit to M5 (an artificial diet which has 5% mulberry powder) were studied in the thesis, the main results are as follows: 1. We detected the olfaction response character of ZaA and general variety Jingsong. To the different feeding habit young silkworms'olfaction response, the results showed the tendency on fresh mulberry leaves of Jingsong young silkworm was stronger than that of ZaA. However, there were obvious difference on M5 and M30 artificial diet. The silkworm head percent of ZaA to the two kinds of diet were higher than that of Jingsong in 90 min. This showed the olfaction sensitivity of ZaA was different with that of common variety.
