The flue-cured tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) plays an important role in economy of China. The production of tobacco is often affected by drought stress in tobacco planting areas of Yunnan province. In order to enhance N fertilizer utilization efficiency and tobacco leaf quality, precipitation data and drought resistance of different genotypes were investigated, moreover, the interaction between water and fertilizer, and water regulation on the flue-cured tobacco were studied. The main results were as follows:According to the precipitation data from 1985 to 2001, gained from twenty-four tobacco-planting areas, such as Kunming and Yiliang, Yunnan province, their precipitation characteristics were analyzed. Meanwhile, the corresponding countermeasures of water management on the flue-cured tobacco production was put forward in this paper. The physiological response of flue-cured tobacco to osmotic stress was studied exposed to different osmotic stress of various levels of polyethylene glycol (PEG). The drought-resistance of different flue-cured tobacco genotypes was studied preliminarily using subordinate function values analysis, and the actual drought-resistance abilities of different cultivars were compared by dry shed trial. The results showed that: The physiological response to osmotic stress and drought stress were same in drought-resistance physiological index of flue-cured tobacco. Identifying drought-resistance of flue-cured tobacco under osmotic stress, the concentration of PEG should be 15% in order to obtain more reliable results. The drought-resistance ability of five flue-cured tobacco genotypes was: V2 > Yun85 > Yun87 > Hongda > K326.By the means of 15N isotope trace in pot experiment, the interaction between water and fertilizer on two flue-cured tobacco varieties (Yun85 and K326), which had different ability in drought resistance, was studied. For all treatments, a marked interaction between water and fertilizer was found on agronomic characters, N fertilizer utilization efficiency, and chemical quality.Effect of water regulation on growth, yield and output value of flue-cured tobacco was studied. The result showed that: When the soil moisture was lower than...
