| Studies on the main characters of sweet potatos is the important theoretic foundation of the varietal breeding and popularization.The test, through abroad and deep research on the main characters of XiangNongHuangPi, Chuanshanzi , Xiangshu No 15, Riyin No 1, Riyin No 2, Xushu No 18, Xiangcaishu No 1, Ningyuan white sweet potato, Jiangyong Ziyun, 83-2146 and other 10 distinctive varieties of sweet potatoes, proves up the germination habits, characteristic performance of production, main quality characters and agronomy characters of the above ten varieties of sweet potatoes.The result indicates that of the ten varieties the germination speeds of Riyin No 2, XiangNongHuangPi, Xushu No 18, 83-2146 and Jiangyong Ziyun are fast and concentrated. Xiangshu No 15, Xushu No 18 , Jiangyong Ziyun, and Riyin No 2 can germinate more buds and seedlings.The output characters of the ten distinctive varieties of sweet potatoes provided for test have great differences. We can take the circumstances into consideration to select a certain variety according to the demands of target during the breeding of the new varieties of sweet potatoes.During growing period, cutting vines can improve the total amount of vines to different extents. The vine outputs of the ten distinctive varieties of sweet potatoes can be ranked as follows: Xiangcaishu No 1 >, Riyin No Z>Jiangyong Ziyun> Ningyuan white sweet potato>83-2146 >XiangNongHuangPi>Xushu No 18 > Chuanshanzi>Riyin No 1> Xiangshu No 15. During the growing period, cutting vines several times will decrease the output of sweet potatoes to different extents. The output of ten distinctive varieties of sweet potatoes can be ranked as follows: Ningyuan white sweet potato, Riyin No 2>83-2146>Xiangcaishu No l>Xushu No 18 > Xiangshu No 15, Chuanshanzi > XiangNongHuangPi, Jiangyong Ziyun> Riyin No 1.Of the ten distinctive varieties of sweet potatoes, Ningyuan white sweet potato and Riyin No 2 can not only improve vine output greatly and also affect the potato output little under the condition of cutting vines during growing period. They are two varieties of relatively endurable vine-cutting. Xiangcaishu No 1, Ningyuan white sweet potato and Riyin No1 show strong ramification habits and high vine output.
