The present study revealed the localization of neurons innervating the duodenum and pancreas of chicken by use of horseradish peroxidase CHRP) technique. HRP solution was injected into the duodenum and pancreas respectively in adult hens weighing 1.0 to 2.0kg. After a survival period of 4 to 5 days, the hens were perfused with fixture via the left ventricle. The splanchnic ganglia, the adrenal ganglia, the celiac ganglia, the jugular ganglia, the nodose ganglia, the Remark's nerve, the mudulla oblongata, the spinal cord in the thoracic and lumbosacral segments, and the bilateral sympathetic trunk ganglia and the spinal ganglia in the thoracic and lumbosacral segments were collected and sectioned at 50μm with frozen microtome. The sections were treated with tetramethylbenzidine(TMB) and observed with bright light microscope. The result as follow: The sympathetic afferent neurons innervating the duodenum and pancreas were located in the spinal ganglia T3-T6 and T3-T7, and accumulated in the spinal ganglia T4-T5 and T5-T6 respectively. The sympathetic postganglia neurons innervating the duodenum and pancreas were located bilaterally in the adrenal ganglia, the splanchnic ganglia, and the sympathetic trunk ganglia T3-T6orT7 in which the peak innervation fields were located in the T4-T5. In addition, large numbers of labeled neurons were found in the Remark's nerve. However, there were no labeled cells in the jugular ganglia, the nudose ganglia, and the mudulla oblongata. The result showed that the distribution and localization of neurons innervating the duodenum and pancreas of chicken were similar primarily.
