Inheritance of IPT gene in FI derived from the cross between transgenic plants and the sterile lines, and plants of different backcross generation were studied. The application purchase of IPT gene was appraised in hybrid rice breeding based on the effect of IPT gene on senescence-inhibition and yield, and the contents of cytokinin and chlorophyll in leaf after heading. The results are as follows:l.IPT gene could inherit stably in FI combination derived from different background and in different backcross generation, which fitted to the law of Mendel.2. The decreasing velocity of chlorophyll and cytokinin content of leaf after heading in the materials with IPT gene showed slower than that in their control plants, indicated that IPT gene could inhibit leaf senescence.3. The difference of effect occurred by IPT gene to yield and yield components were observed in different background of rice and environment. The yield of T-HP121 (transgenic HP121) and the FI of T-HP121 and the sterile lines was higher than that of their control plants in the three season. However, the yield of T-8706 and its hybrid with the sterile lines was decreased in Beijing but increased in Heifei compared to their control plants.4. Of the yield components, filled grains numbers per panicle showed the most variant extent of effect by IPT gene, followed by panicles per plant, seed set ratio and 1000-grain weight.5. The content of cytokinin and Chlorophyll ,the ratio of Chla to Chlb can be used a physiological traits to identify senescence.
