Potato is one of the major economical crops in China, and it is also a kind of important industry chemicals. Its planting spread all over the country, the areas occupy second place and the annual yield rank first in the world. The planting areas of potato are increasing based on stabilization along with the adjustment of industrial structure and implement of industrial road in agriculture. The potato harvesting needs plenty of time and laborers because of the great quantity of work. Realizing mechanization of potato harvesting is developing direction.Potato harvesting includes two parts, digging and sieving. The digging is the first process during the course. With sixty percent or seventy percent of the total resistance from digging resistance, the working performance of the digging lifter has important influence on the harvest. The digging rate and the damaged rate depend on it. This paper studied the potato harvesting methods and technical theories of mechanization; moreover, it indicated difficult problems and keys on mechanization of potato digging and advanced new ideas to design the potato digger. The paper also established the calculating model to design digging components by Visual Basic. By the ideas and methods of designing new components through CAA, movement analysis, parameter optimum and performance analysis were done in order to ameliorate the capability of breaking soil and promoting height, to decrease the earth obstruction and to enhance the efficiency of sifting or other later processes. It improved the digging rate of combined lifter, detracted the damaged rate and the total resistance to some extent and enhanced the working efficiency and productivity. It has resolved the problems such as complication of components design, multitude and triviality of parameter calculation and the influence from the climate, soil quality and planting habit during the experiments By CAA. The design calculation, parameter optimum and performance analysis about the new innovated combined lifter have been done systematically.
