Restoration Of The Military Defence System In Yangzhou City (6-13 Century A.D)

This thesis constructs a framework of city military defence system research, includes: a macroscopic view on the historical geography and martial geography, a mesoscopic view on the plan of city defence system , and a microscopic view on the construction and elements of city gate and city wall. This thesis takes a deep examine of the Yangzhou city in 6-13 century basing on the system.From a macroscopic view, this thesis firstly takes a martial geography analysis of the historic Yangzhou city, and points out the close relationship between the adjacent city on the opposite side of the Yangtse River.From a mesoscopic view, the research includes:A brief outline on the construction and destruction events of city walls and gates and clarified some promiscuous historical literature;The research on the restoration of city plan (from Sui to Song dynasty): points out the doubtful points of previous city plan restoration, examines the city plan from some new angle of view, and suggests a series of new restored city plan of these 7 centuries.From a microscopic view, this thesis makes a detailed research on city gates construction from a technological view, by collecting and looking into the archeology materials of city gates in 6-13 century A.D, and A statistical analysis on city wall in the Tang and Song dynasties. These two parts above provides the basis of restoration on Yangzhou city.This thesis then took several main city gates built in Tang and Song dynasty as example, and makes the computerized three-dimensional restoration with construction detail, which strictly follows the discovery of archeology.
