Hybrid Excitation Doubly Salient (HEDS) machine evolves from Doubly Salient Permanent Magnet (DSPM) machine, combining permanent magnet and electro-excitation organically. In addition to inheriting a number of advantages such as simple structure, flexible control, fast dynamic response, speed performance, large torque/current ratio from DSPM machine, HEDS machine system also has the ability to raise speed by diluting magnetic and improve torque by increasing magnetic field through electrical excitation. Because of this, HEDS machine has been got more and more extensive attention.This paper focuses on two aspects mainly:â‘ The effects of HEDS machine structure parameters on the output torque and torque pulsation;â‘¡The control strategies and fault-tolerant performance of HEDS machine. In order to solve these problems, the following research works have been done:Firstly, an introduction about the basic structure, mathematical model, operation principle and magnetic regulation design idea of HEDS machine has been introduced. The initial design formulas of the main dimensions of HEDS machine have been given based on the analogy to the design of doubly salient motor with other structures. The electromagnetic design of HEDS machine also has been accomplished. Then the two-dimensional finite element model of HEDS machine has been builded and the basic characteristics of HEDS machine has been analyzed.Then, the effects on the output torque and torque pulsation of HEDS machine structure parameters such as air gap thickness, rotor pole arc width, and the height ratio of stator and rotor have been analyzed. And the conclusions have some reference value for HEDS machine design.Finally, the in-depth analysis of HEDS machine current, torque characteristics is given when it works in half-bridge power converter power supply and uses standard angle control. Advance Angle Control has been proposed aiming at the problem of lower output torque in high speed and the influence on current and torque characteristics of different advance angles is analyzed. Simulation authentication is accomplished using established circuit-field coupled finite-element model of HEDS machine systems. The results show that the application of Advance Angle Control can effectively reduce torque pulsation and improve the output torque performance when the motor is running at medium and high speed. Meanwhile, on basis of Advance Angle Control simulation, fault tolerance of HEDS machine is analyzed. The results show that HEDS machine has good fault tolerance.
