Improving the efficiency of turbine is good for continuous utilizing of energy. Effective seal is a valid method for performance of turbine. Because of unique configuration and effective function, Brush seal is identified with customers. Study on brush seal is a helpful guidance for design and application.Through model calculation and experimentation, we have deeply analyzed the configuration and validity of brush seal. We get the conclusion that it is feasible for brush seal to be used in steam turbine, and it will benefit for turbine performance. The brush seal product that is used in this experiment express that: When the clearance is below 0.5mm, brush seal is better than labyrinth seal, the more benefit the smaller clearance is. When the clearance is below 0.25mm, the leakage flow can be reduced about 22%. For critical 300MW steam turbine, the design heat rate can be reduced about 27kJ/kW.h. When the clearance is below 0.1mm, the leakage flow can be reduced about 35%. For critical 300MW steam turbine, the design heat rate can be reduced about 42kJ/kW.h. For some turbine with bigger clearance the heat rate can be reduced about 190kJ/kW.h. Application of bush seal will benefit to the customers and society.
