Based on previous research works, and funded by two projects which were from the Science and Technology Project of Chinese Ministry of Transport under Grant No. 200831874006 and from the Natural Science Foundation Project of Chongqing Science & Technology Commission of China under Grant No. CSTC2009BA6001, through surveys, testing and analysis, the collapse mechanism, influencing factors and prediction method of by soil reservoir bank in mountain areas were investigated. The main works and conclusions were following:(1) Based on many surveys, the characteristics of distribution and deformation of bank failures were investigated. The 7 type physical models of bank slopes with different angles, materials, slope shapes and the internal structures were established. Through model experiments, the course of bank collapse was reproduced.(2) Carried out simulation of the physical bank collapse, especially studied on the different factors on the impact of bank collapse,and variation of the bank phreatic line which changed with the water level. The experiments' results showed that, the faster the water level changes, the more vulnerable of bank damage.Consulted Zheng Ying-ren and other scholars's theoretical analysis method which was about the variation of bank phreatic line ,after fitting analysis of variation of homogeneous phreatic line slope in the experiment results,a modified formula for calculating infiltration was proposed, and verified the rationality.(3) Contrapose the mountainous soil reservoir bank,through the analysis of a variety of graphical method summary,an improved prediction method of bank collapse was proposed. In practical work,we should fully examine the geotechnical properties, reservoir-bank structure,geological structure and factors affecting reservoir bank collapse,and chose an appropriate forecasting method to predict the bank collapse.
