Preservation & Regeneration For The Historical & Cultural Villages In Rural-urban Fringe

This paper concentrated in the regeneration of historical and cultural villages, which are located in the rural-urban fringe. It started from the research of conservation and regeneration of Dayangquan historical and cultural village.Firstly, principles and techniques of conservation were analyzed, the losing of effectivenesses of conservation for historical and cultural villages located in rural-urban fringe have been found out. Through the analysis of phases and theories of urban renewal, new urbanism were argued as a favorable way to guide the conservation and regeneration for those villages.Secondly, Dayangquan historical and cultural village in Shanxi were taken as an example to illustrate how to use the concepts and principles to conserve and regenerate historical and cultural villages in rural-urban fringe. Historical and cultural values have been analyzed from three aspects, which are city area aspect, village area aspect and public space aspect. Then, strategies and methods have been separately given from city area aspect, village area aspect and public space aspect. In the city region aspect, the conservation and renewal planning should be planned with city as a whole. In the village area aspect, the mixing functions were emphasized. In the public space aspect, increasing the communication and public life for residents were encouraged.
