With the vigorous development of the shipping business, the amount of ship ballast water which traveled all over the world with ships increased year by year. The problems such as biological invasion, bacteria and viruses transmission which were brought by ballast water attracting more and more attention. Nowadays, effective management technology of ship ballast water has become one of the most popular problems in the world.Pulsed high voltage discharge directly in water was proposed to treat the ship ballast water in this project. Self-design board-hole-board reactor was used to remove the representational zooplankton and bacteria in sea water. Anemia, yeast and E.coli were chosen to treatment in this study. The there growth (eggs, larvae, adult) for Anemia were studied. By changing the peak voltage, pulse frequency and treatment time these parameters to examine the kill effect. The mechanism of killing organism was researched by observing and comparison eggs Anemia and larvae Anemia before and after discharge treatment though microscope photos. The results showed:with the increasing of pulsed peak voltage, pulsed frequency and treatment time, the survival rate of Anemia, yeast and E.coli decreased. The killing rate could reach 100% at the appropriate discharge parameters. In the same discharge parameters, the kill rate of larvae Anemia was lower than adult Anemia's. There was no influence on hatch rate of eggs Anemia at low voltage. When the voltage was over 34kV, hatch rate of eggs Anemia was reduced to 20%, and the brooding time of eggs Anemia would be curtailed 16 hours after treatment. The killing rate of bacteria was also affected by its size, E.coli was more difficult to kill than yeast, small individual microbial were more difficult to remove than large individual microbial. The treated cell structure of eggs Anemia and larvae Anemia occurred various changes that were found out when we used microscope to observe the Anemia cell structure before and after treatment. It further proved discharge process could damage biological cells, causing biological individual's death.
