Compared with the traditional method of single-factor deviation analysis, it has obviously advantages. It plays an important role in many areas of project management practices, which makes it attracted more and more attention. Therefore, the goal of the research is to make the thought of earned value theory applied in the existing shipbuilding production management. Making some supplementations and amendments on the basis of its original theoretical system, so that it can be applied to large modern shipbuilding enterprise, then its advantages and effectiveness of itself are to be proved.On the basis of detailed study of existing literature, this topic introduces the formation, development and research situation of the earned value management theory, describes the basic principles of earned value method, and summarizes the limitations and shortcomings of traditional earned value analysis methods in the theoretical model and project management practices.
