Soft soil foundation has a considerable wide range of distribution in coastal and inland areas in China. The strength of soft soil is low and distortion is great, if its settlement can not be computed exactly, it will affect the design and construction of the foundation projects. With the fast development of infrastructure in China, more and more docks and ports, industrial civil constructions, airports, highways and other projects were built on soft soil area, the demands of prediction for foundation settlement are rising continuously. Take settlement observation on the soft soil, according to pre-settlement information can forecast the final settlement and post-construction settlement more accurately, and can provide a reliable guidance for choose treatment for soft soil foundation. Construction of buildings in the soft, take settlement observation and prediction on soft ground has important significance in ensuring the quality of the normal operation of the building and extending the service life of the building.This paper take the soft soil foundation treatment of Yueyang Songyang Lake port zone land yard as engineering background, based on the subject of the observation, analysis and prediction about soft soil foundation settlement, adopted the method that combining locale loading test,locale settlement monitoring and theoretical study, to explore the problem of soft soil foundation settlement more systemic and deeply.Firstly, this paper analyzed the forming causes of soft soil foundation,its types and its main features, and summarized the settlement deformation mechanism and the concretion theory of soft soil foundation.Then, this paper introduced the engineering general situation loading test and settlement observation program of Yueyang Songyang lake port zone, did systems analysis studies of various monitoring data and related information, analyzed the influence of settlement factors and the rule of monitoring data changed with time or load, to guide the smooth progress of construction.Finally, calculated settlement prediction according to the locale measured settlement data, respective using curve fitting method and inverse analysis method of numerical simulate foundation parameters on the test section. Using numerical simulation for predicting the soft soil treated. It would provide referenced experiences for similar settlement prediction of soft soil foundation in future.
