Claw-pole alternator is widely used as generators in vehicle, spaceflight etc. because of its simple structure, low-cost and operation reliability. But the conventional claw-pole alternator has the disadvantage of poor output, low efficiency and big noise. So it is necessary to improve and optimize the structure of claw-pole alternator. The magnetic field of the hybrid excitation claw-pole alternator is contributed by permanent magnet and field winding. Compared with the conventional alternator, it has the advantages of high efficiency, good low-speed characteristics, excitation adjustable, high flux densities and so on. Therefore the hybrid excitation alternator has good researching prospect and application value. For the reasons of the complexity and irregularity of alternator's structure and its typical 3-dimensional magnetic field characteristic, there is lack of the research on this kind of alternator. This paper analyzes, models and calculates a six-pair poles hybrid excitation claw-pole alternator. The magnetic field under no-load and load is calculated by three dimensional finite element method. And the self and mutual inductance of phase windings are calculated by energy perturbation method. Finally, the magnetic leakage factors are analyzed under no-load. The main results of this paper are helpful to the optimal design of the hybrid excitation claw-pole alternator.
