The earthquake disaster revealed some timber structure houses in undeveloped villages and small towns couldn't achieve safety standards, because of the influence of a good many factors such as undeveloped economy, architecture materials, structure types and traditional construction customs ect. While light woodframe structure in western developed countries would not or slightly be destroyed even in a larger magnitude earthquake. The light woodframe structure rural residence in this thesis is a new building structure which is combined with the structural pattern of light woodframe structure in western developed countries and the actual conditions of wood and bamboo widely used in Chinese rural area.Firstly, this thesis introduced the features of the rural wooden structural house of our country, the modern woodfreme house of foreign country, the modern bamboo bouse and the light woodframe structure rural residence, then described several structure types of the rural wooden structural house and their typical damage in earthquake, finally analyzed the differences between the light woodframe structure rural residence and the rural wooden structural house, and the feasibility of spreading use of the light woodframe structure rural residence in Chinese rural area.In addition, in this thesis, the materials, structure and related technology of the light woodframe structure rural residence were introduced. Then, three reduced scale models of light woodframe structure rural residence different in stiffness ratio were designed, fabricated, completed. Shake table tests of the structures had been performed separately. Through shaking table tests, this thesis analyzed the failure phenomena mechanisms, then studied the trend of natural vibration frequency and damping ratio, and other dynamic responses of the models such as acceleration and displacement. The results demonstrated the light woodframe structure rural residence specimen could meet the requirement for seismic intensity 8 described in China Seismic Design Code.At last, the base shear method was used to calculate the horizontal earthquake effect of the light woodframe structure rural residence model, and the results agreed well with the test results. This thesis also compared the seismic capacity and economic index of the light woodframe structure rural residence model with the same size of rural wooden structural house model.
