The construction of large hydropower station demands a huge transportation of materials, and the weights and external sizes of heavy cargos are restricted by railways, highways, tunnels and bridges, so heavy cargos should be transportd from waterways to the heavy cargo wharf near to the dam and then transferred from accommodation highways to hydropower station building sites. As one of the basic construction for external transportation of hydropower station, safety and security of heavy cargo wharf is very important. Therefore, selection of port site for a heavy cargo wharf is of great significance, the key to which is to demonstrate whether the navigational flow conditions can meet the requirements of ships sailing, berthing, loading and unloading. Till now, very few researches have been conducted on this in China and abroad, this thesis is based upon the project of heavy cargo wharfs of Jinshajiang Xiangjia Dam Hydropower Station. After analyzing the basic conditions in the port site of the reaches in the planned heavy cargo wharfs, strive to find a place where the riverbeds maintain a slight evolvement.A simulation conducted by applying two-dimensional circulation mathematical models which is based on Galerkin finite element method is adopted to find a solution to two-dimensional shallow water equation. After validating water level and flow velocity of the reaches, it shows that the calculation results are consistent with the practical measuring data. It indicates that the mathematical model and the data calculation methods are reasonable. Calculate and analyze a few of port sites by using the same mathematic models, combined with the hydraulic model test and vessel model test , some flow conditions like flow velocity, slopes of water surface, and change of velocity field are explored. Analyzes the vessels'berthing, loading and unloading and putting in and departing from the wharf, besides these, the influences of Hydropower Station's working are considered, striving to select the most suitable port site that bear reasonable technological economy and at the same time, can meet the requirements of navigation, and these researchful methods can be used for reference to other similar engineering.
