The structure will transform into Elastic-Plastic , the stiffness will be change, and also the plastic stress will be redistributed in the strong earthquake, so the performance-based design was put forward. The Elastic-Plastic analysis method includes Elastic-Plastic static analysis and Elastic-Plastic dynamic analysis. The Elastic-Plastic static analysis(pushover) is an important tool for the performance-based design because of its simple theory , easiness to realize , ability to educe the structure response in the Elastic-Plastic state and find the weakness of structure. The resultant of the Elastic-Plastic dynamic analysis (time history analysis) has higher veracity, but it is difficult to realize because of its complexity of the Elastic-Plastic dynamic analysis and demanding strictly for manipulator. In one word , Elastic-Plastic static analysis and Elastic-Plastic dynamic analysis has merits and localization.This paper engages in the analysis on the recent researches of Elastic-Plastic analysis and compares the response spectrum between Chinese code and other advance countries. This paper also makes both Elastic-Plastic static analysis and Elastic-Plastic dynamic analysis on the reinforced concrete frame structure, consequently the two methods have educed the weakness parts which would appear in the structure on the seismic action, while the attentive problems during the practical design were put forward in this paper. At last, the paper points out the direction for development of the Elastic-Plastic analysis method.
