With the expansion of the city and the rapid development of city construction, the problem of urban environmental noise is outstanding. At present, noise sources include traffic noise, industrial noise, building construction noise and social activity noise, but in the case of noise influent range and degree, traffic noise is the major noise source, noise disturb residents incident constantly emerging. Noise barrier used as a economical and effective measure of reducing noise level, will be further development in some degree. How to use this noise reduction measure efficiently, enable it do the furthest technical and economical effect, is significant to improve residents'living environment quality and sustainable development of city construction.This paper analyses the sound barrier's application status and development trend both at home and abroad, studies on sound barrier's acoustic design theory, design principles and contents. Mainly includes, the sound attenuation theory, the noise barrier's geometric design, structural design and landscape requirement.The paper further study on relative theory and methods of model test, application of similar theory and the knowledge of model test, designed and installed the sound barrier's reduced-scale model, acoustic test is done in semi-anechoic room. Comparison with the test results of noise barrier's prototype field testing, validation of model test feasibility. Correctness of the results of the testing, internal connection between model test and field test is obtained.The top folded angle of sound barrier's model adjustable was designed and made in the experiment. Therefore, further experiment are made to test the influence of different top folded angle. Model test beneficial to simplify measurement, make the measurement outdoors which cost manpower and material resources can relocate indoors, it does not require much cost for manufacturing model, can found some defects before construct the material object, make further correction at design stage, avoid redid remedial measures in the future, save the resources of manpower, material resources and financial resources greatly. The study of this subject not only has instructal significance and applying value but also is a new research method for the project of our country's sound barrier.
