With the rapid development of technology and the fierce market competition, mass customization (MC) has been a central trend. As its key technology, product configuration plays more and more important roles in MC owing to its development. And in the light of the needs for development of mould industry and its related issues, this paper takes mould-base as the object of study of product configuration, through studying the technical theory and other related technical, the overall idea and the implementation step of mould-base configuration are designed.Firstly, study a series of technical theory of product configuration and illuminate the fundamental principle, the implementation process and the basic implementation approach. Here also introduces the general algorithm and the evaluation methods.Secondly, according to the design requirement of product configuration based on the analyzing the structural features and configurability of the mould-base, the feature model can be constructed and the basic procedure also can be described. Then the configuration knowledgebase which includes the coding knowledge, demand knowledge, code and examples, is constructed.Once more, through standardizing the customer demand acquired and transforming them into configuration conditions. With different requirement, both case-based reasoning and rule-based reasoning were used in the process of configuration design. Then the best decision can be optimized by evaluating on the basis of these.Finally, based on the above and combining with the research of correlation technique, the prototype system of mould-base configuration design and management is developed, mainly implementation computer-aided product configuration of mould-base.
