Supported by National Natural Science Foundation of China (NO.50577019), the fast multipole method (FMM) has been used to solve electromagnetic scattering form target in this paper. Firstly, the key techniques of method of moment, as the basis of fast multipole method, are extensively studied. Secondly, the fast multipole method is studied in detail and the formula derivations are introduced in theory. Finally, the application of FMM is also analyzed. Having established Electric Field Integral Equation (EFIE) of thin-wire antennas, the current distribution on surface of two vertical conductors is separately analyzed, which is in infinite space and in half-space of perfect conductor ground surface. The numerical results show that fast multipole method is more efficient and can save more memory compared with method of moment. It can be provided as an available analytical method used for numerical simulation for electromagnetic scattering from electrically large size object with complicated structure.
