Cold-formed purlins have a high load carrying capacity because of their optimized cross-section and the stabilizing effect of the sheeting. The purlin-sheeting have been the subject of numerous theoretical and experimental investigations over the past four decades, but the complexity of the systems has led to great difficulty in developing a perfect and general model. Especially, for the long-span purlin which span has exceeded the codes' proposed value, how to correctly get its stability bearing capacity is very important. The paper makes theoretical analysis and numerical simulation on the stability bearing capacity of the long-span Z-purlin subjected to wind suction. The stability bearing capacity of the purlin is calculated by formulas of different codes and some design manuals, including technical specification for steel structure of light-weight buildings with gabled frames, technical code of cold-formed thin-wall steel structure, design manual for steel structure and PKPM program. This paper researches differences and applicability of different codes for calculating stability bearing capacity of the long-span purlin and advance some avail advices for stability calculation of the purlin subjected to wind suction. The research results are avail to ameliorate and predigest the design method of the long-span Z-purlin and are also willing to be a reference to the future modification of specifications.
