With the development of the economic globalization and industry informatization, network-based interregional multi-enterprise and cross-disciplinary collaborative product development is becoming the trend of product development pattern. As the extension of product data management (PDM) technology, product lifecycle management (PLM) technology attracts much attention recently. The PLM system manages all related data and processes of product, and provides a strong support for the distributed and collaborative product development.On the basis of development and implements of the PLM system in a large telecom equipment manufacturing company, this paper deeply studies the workflow management technology and its realization in the PLM system.Firstly, the PLM-oriented workflow management function model is discussed. Based on the detailed research work of basic conceptions and facts of workflow, this paper respectively studies the lifecycle status management module, document flow management module, engineering change management module and project management module, including theirs functions and requirements to workflow management system. Then the model of workflow management system is put forward and realized the seamless integration with the PLM system.Secondly, three key technologies of workflow management, including Process model, organization model and access control model, are deeply discussed in this paper:1) Process modeling method and workflow control constructs are discussed, and a set of process modeling element is proposed to meet the requirements of building complicated business processes in PLM system.2) Based on the analyses of the shortages of current organization model, an organization-based dynamic roles assigned model is proposed, and then a flexible organization model is put forward to meet the requirements of the workflow application.3) An access control model based on lifecycle status of the product data, nodes of the workflow, and roles of the accessing user is proposed. Through establishing the work space model of the data item in the workflow, the lifecycle-status based authorization model and the workflow-nodes based authorization model, this paper realizes the co-authorization and access control of lifecycle management and workflow management in the PLM system and also support different permission parsing rules. The flexibility and security of the access control in workflow management are improved.Finally, a workflow management system based on multi-lay software framework on .Net platform is developed and the implementation about the key technologies is introduced, which testified the advancement and practicability of this thesis's research achievements.
