Borescope detection technology is an important mean which is widely applied in the maintenance of aero-engine. This is a matter of great significant in engine interior damage evaluation and maintenance decisions and in the process of engine on-condition maintenance. But the evaluation and decisions usually depend greatly on the experts'experience knowledge. The facts of more airplanes, spreading widely, and fewer experts in airline companies, make it difficult to solve the problem on time.In this article a remote expert system of aero-engine interior damage evaluation and maintenance decisions is studied. On the side of damage evaluation, it uses CIBR(content-based image retrieval) to work,the texture features of damage images are calculated, the structural self-adapted neural network is established to recognize the damage types, and a necessary validation is carried out. On the side of maintenance decision, a Reasoning Combining CBR and RBR(RCCR)is presented, which is applied to construct the remote expert system.According to the BOEING maintenance manual, the expert system knowledge rules are acquired and rule base is built. This system puts typical engine damage conditions and relevant maintenance decisions into case base as the standard cases. Rule case and case base constitutes the expert system's knowledge base, which is stored in the server. Meanwhile a mechanism of machine learning is built to update the rules in the light of the variation of maintenance manual synchronously and to maintain the typical cases. When working, through user interface, the users input information to server. First the system used RBR to get maintenance decision if the information is in the range of rules. To those cases which are hard to determine, or to those cases near critical damage sizes, system then uses CBR to get similar cases from case base. Finally, system integrates the information together to make the maintenance decisions, and delivered the conclusion to users.In this article we design a flow chart according to this expert system and develop a soft: Engine Interior Damage Remote Evaluation and Decision Expert System: EIDRES . The key technology of network and database manage system such as JSP and Oracle is used in the EIDRES system.
