In this thesis, a systematic study for the magnetorheological fluid damper(MRFD) is made. When one mode is chief in the structure response, the theory thatMRFD is equivalent to viscoelastic damper is presented. According to energy analysismethod, the design method of civil structures using MRFDs based on energy analysisis advanced. The process is explaned through an example.Firstly, the research headway and current situation review for MRF, MRFD andSemi-active Control Algorithms. Meanwhile, the significance and contents of thispaper are introducd. Compared control effection based on LQR, four kindssemi-active control, Passive-off, Passive-on and LQR and uncontrolled. Feasibilityanalysis that semi-active control instead of active control is processed. Civil structuresusing MRFDs of mode-superposition method is presented.According to the front analysis, MRFD is equivalent to viscoelastic damper, andeffect of equivalency is anglicised in elastic and elastic plasticity. The process ofequivalency is putted forward. At last, the design method of civil structures usingMRFDs based on energy analysis is advanced. The process is explaned through anexample.
