With the development of electric power system, the grid becomes more and more large and contains more and more components. If a fault occurs in the system, a great damage will happen. Fault recorder is one of main devices which provide data to analyze all kinds of power sysytem states. The data that the recorder records is analyzed to get the fault information such as fault type and location. Therefore, the system or equipment can recover its steady state as soon as possible by treating faults faster. It has very important practical value to protect system operation.Afer analyzing the recorder data, the main characteristic of the data is extra-cted.Then relevant fault analysis theories and digital signal processing methods a-re applied to extract fault characteristics for the further analysis. Presently there are some problems in the data processing. According to the above analysis,the paper conducts some study to solve these problem: extration of fault time and fa-ult type analysis based on wavelet transform;improvement of fault location.Through PSCAD simulation, the results testify all algorithms'correctness, validity.
