Electromagnetic scattering properties from the target above road surface are studied in this thesis. Firstly, a review of electromagnetic scattering from random rough surfaces is given. Some primary methods about the electromagnetic scattering of random rough surface are introduced. Secondly, the road surface under the target is modeled as a random rough multilayer medium. The electromagnetic back-scattering of rough asphalt or concrete road surface are studied by using Kirchhoff approximation and theory of wave propagation in mutilayer media. Thirdly, electromagnetic scattering properties of complex targets are obtained by using equivalent electromagnetic currents. Finally, composite electromagnetic scattering properties of target with asphalt or concrete road surface are calculated by the'four-path'model. The Shadowing effects between target and ground is considered using the shooting and bouncing ray technique(SBR), then the direct scattering of target and road surface, first order scattering, and total scattering coefficient are calculated, the effects of different scattering terms on total scattering coefficient are studied in composite electromagnetic scattering.
