The handling stability of vehicle is about the ability of its accepting the driver's steering and the stability in the running-direction; which not only refers to the extent of convenience of the vehicle's steering, but also is a main safety performance index of vehicle's driving in high speed. As the speed of modern vehicles increases, the demand about handling stability of vehicles becomes higher and higher. The traditional way of the handling stability tests of vehicles is usually finished through physical vehicles' tests for many times after the sample-vehicles are made. This way has long cycle and low efficiency, so it can not meet the demands of the modern vehicle's developing speed and qualities.This paper focuses on the study of handling stability of vehicles in the virtual reality environment, and was carried out based on a sub-project of the dean fund project of Mechanical and energy engineering college which is "test and diagnose research based on VR&VI". This is a bran-new testing way for the handling stability of vehicles. The whole virtual experimenting system is datum-oriented and computerized completely, so it can give all-around subjective and objective evaluations of the handling stability of vehicles before the physical model is made. The chapters of this paper are arranged as follows:The first chapter is an introduction of the thesis; it mainly introduces the assessment methods and the study actualities. Then it gives a summary about the developing situations and its significances of the virtual prototype techniques and the virtual reality techniques based on the needs of the project studying. Finally the studying contents and the whole frame of the thesis are introduced.The second chapter is about the vehicle's virtually modeling and its analysis, in which the related theories of dynamics and ADAMS which is dynamics analysis applying software are introduced. Then carry out the handling stability Slalom-test by using the software ADAMS; finally collect and deal with these results datum of the emulation analysis.The third chapter is about the construction of the virtual reality system, which includes the software system design and the hardware system design. In addition, WTK which is a virtual reality software packageis introduced and so do the methods and implementing techniques of building virtual environment and the kinetic model, and the realizing methods of using the LabVIEW controls.The forth chapter studies the programming methods of the virtual-emulation system software models. Besides, the software system of the virtual-emulation environment of the Slalom-test is finished, while its hardware system is tested successfully.The fifth chapter presents the review and conclusions of this thesis, and so does the future research work.
