This paper addresses itself to some issues about the fault detection system of asynchronous motors. Firstly, a detection method of stator winding inter-turn short circuit fault, which takes the low-filtered stator negative sequence apparent impedance as fault feature, is presented. By using neural network technique, the detection threshold can be appropriately set up. Secondly, based on the perfect combination of subdivision Fourier transform, self-adaptive filter, rotor slot harmonics based slip estimation and detection threshold self-tuning techniques, this paper proposes a novel method to detect rotor bar breaking fault, which takes the characteristic frequency component in stator current as fault feature. The practicability of these two methods has already been verified by simulation and experiment results. Finally, a fault detection system of asynchronous motors is discussed in detail.
